History
Family Owned Since 1925
Security Signs was established in 1925 by A.M. Fulton, with a shop originally located in Portland's Buckman neighborhood.
He and his team created "painted signs and electrical advertising" of all kinds - gold and silver-leaf windows, hand-painted and air-brushed enamel for moving and delivery trucks, ornate hand-painted theater curtains, oversized painted building signs, and incandescent bulb signs.
When neon blazed across America throughout the 30s and 40s, Fulton jumped on the craze, building his first neon sign in 1939 and creating a neon department of pattern makers and glass benders. (Fun fact: the old door to the neon department still hangs in our shop!) And when the use of plastics in signage took off in the early 50s, Security Signs welcomed it into the mix, always pushing to build signs with the latest advancements in materials and technology.
Over the decades, Security Signs designed, built and installed iconic signs that have become landmarks across Portland and beyond. Fulton and his team established the foundation of a profitable business, built on a legacy of quality and innovation.
In 1997, the Keljo family purchased Security Signs from the Fulton family. With many years of experience in business, the Keljos guided the company through significant growth. To future-proof the company and allow for greater leaps in innovation and nationwide customer service, the shop moved in 2005 to its current 40,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility in Portland’s Reed neighborhood. From this location, we can meet your signage needs of all scales - from intricate cut-vinyl window graphics to towering illuminated pylon signs with digital EMCs.
The longevity of our work demonstrates we are trusted by clients to transform their company brands into quality signage that builds and supports their businesses for decades. Our techniques, materials and designs keep pace with technological advances, ensuring Security Signs will continue to serve you and all your signage needs.
